In fact, as the article is pointing out, having a straight actor in the role today would lessen the impact of the film. The next big impactful thing will not need to feature a straight actor in the role to have the same impact. We could not have gotten here without Philadelphia being exactly what it was, but we don’t need that anymore moving forward. You’re 100% right of course about the impact Philadelphia had when it was new.
